They Write Their Dreams on the Rock Forever: Rock Writings in the Stein River Valley of British Columbia, Annie York, Richard Daly & Chris Arnett
1993, Talonbooks, cloth, d/j
300 pages, 16 color plates, 172 line drawings and b/w photos, 8-1/4" x 10-1/2"
This book was borne out of an archaeological and anthropological background study in preparation for a proposed logging access road into the Stein River Valley, a tributary to the Fraser River, to the northeast of Vancouver, British Columbia.
The principal author, AnnieYork, is a 'Nlaka'pamux elder who is also the principal informant/authority for the information presented in the text.
Chris Arnett is an artist who contributes drawings of the rock art, and Richard Daley is an ethnographer.
The book is primarily the taped interviews of Annie York consisting of her interpretations of the rock art within the study region.
This is an exceptional and important book which should give insight into the "meaning" of rock art the world over.
